To find out if you have HIV you will need to take a blood or oral swab test. For the majority of people, HIV testing will be accurate at six weeks after possible infection.
There are three types of HIV tests:

  • At our Auckland Clinic we offer FREE INSTI Multiplex rapid testing which tests for both HIV and Syphilis at the same time. This involves a pin prick to the finger and the results are in 60 seconds.

          Testing days and times are:
Wednesday 2 pm -7 pm and Thursday 2 pm - 6.30 pm. By appointment only.

          Address:
          Level 1 - 35 Hargreaves Street
          St Mary's Bay
          Auckland 1011

Phone: 0275714685 or info@positivewomen.nz to make an appointment. No walk-ins.

  • HIV Home Test is an oral swab. A kit is delivered in a discreet package to any address in New Zealand. The test uses an oral swab (no finger pricks or blood) Results will show in 20 minutes. You can order one online here.

Please note:  HIV cannot be passed on through kissing or saliva. The oral rapid test purely detects the antibodies in oral fluid made by the immune system in response to HIV infection.

  • Sexual Health Drop-In. A free, discreet, and confidential sexual health service for all people.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do I have to wait after I have had unprotected sex to get tested for HIV. Can you get tested right away and know the results? Or do you have to wait a certain amount of time?

HIV tests detect antibodies — the immune system’s response to infection. For the majority of people, HIV testing will be accurate at six weeks after possible infection.
