We are excited share the new name for the refugee, asylum seekers and migrant programme we have been working on. The name was developed together with Māori and approved by the Community Roopu Tautoku.

The Annual Burnett Foundation Big Gay Out was held on Sunday 18 February 2024.  
Positive Women Inc. joined forces with Toitū te Ao and the Burnett Centre, offering HIV testing on site.   It was a very busy day with the team testing 75  people from all walks of life, between midday and 5pm.

Ten amazing people attended the Positive Speakers Whakataki new Speakers training in February 2024.  Always a very powerful and exhilarating event, this one was no exception.  
Five women and five men came from all over the country and spent 4 days together at the beautiful Long Bay Retreat Centre.

The new Governance Board of Positive Women Inc. meet for the first time on Sunday 28 January 2024.  
A social dinner was held at the Mexican Café the evening before which was an opportunity for the Board to officially meet the Operations Team.

As we head into March, the pace is picking up and we anticipate a huge year in 2024 with many projects coming to fruition, some of which are mentioned in this month’s news.

After many years of worrying that we would not get another Ministry contract in 2023, we are pleased to announce we have received a new contract for the next two years which is a huge relief. This comes with a bit of extra funding which is in line with the new HIV Action Plan and the goal to eliminate HIV transmission in Aotearoa by 2030.

Positive Women Inc. has received some funding from Te Whatu Ora to develop a programme to raise awareness around HIV prevention and support for refugee and migrants in Aotearoa who have come from high HIV prevalence countries.

After a COVID hiatus in 2022, the annual HIV Women’s Seminar was back this year held at Sorrento in the Park on 29 September 2023.
98 people attended the seminar from a variety of different sectors including, midwives, nurse practitioners, Refugee and Migrant community organisations, health promotors, sexual health workers and people living with HIV.
