Condoms are a cornerstone of sexual health, offering essential protection against unwanted pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV. They are a simple, non-invasive, and highly effective way to promote safer sexual practices, ensuring both partners' health and well-being.

Through its Te Taenga Mai programme, Positive Women Inc. is committed to making condoms more accessible to everyone. Since June 2024, Positive Women Inc, has distributed over 10,000 free male condoms and 1,100 free female condoms, to people across Aotearoa New Zealand. Around a quarter of those ordering condoms are repeat customers, indicating an ongoing need for accessible protection.

Over 80% of the orders are from people aged between 16 to 34, reflecting the project’s strong appeal to younger people. The initiative is also highly inclusive, with 62% of orders coming from the heterosexual community, 21% from the Rainbow and Gender Diverse community, and 17% preferring not to disclose their identity.

Positive Women Inc.'s Te Taenga Mai programme is a crucial step toward promoting sexual health, reducing the spread of STIs, and ensuring people have access to the protection they need. With the continued success of this initiative, the organisation is making strides toward a healthier, safer future for all.
