Payroll

Times are financially tough at the moment for many NGOs. Funding streams have been restricted due to Covid and Positive Women Inc. has been affected. Therefore we are reaching out to see if you would consider supporting our charity through payroll giving.

The Payroll Giving scheme enables you to donate regularly from your gross pay/pension to charities of your choice. The donations are taken from your pay/pension before income tax is applied, making it a tax-effective way to give.

How payroll giving works

  • You choose the organisation you want to donate to, how much you want to donate and how often.
  • Your employer deducts the money on your behalf and passes it onto the organisation. For every dollar you donate you get 33.33 cents back as a tax credit. The credit reduces the amount of PAYE you pay.
  • You do not need to do anything at the end of the tax year as you've already received the tax credits.

Which businesses offer Payroll Giving?
Payroll giving may not be a concept well known in New Zealand, not every employer offers it. Just ask your Manager or HR representative if it is available in your workplace. Any organisation which electronically files its employer monthly schedule and deduction form with the IRD can offer payroll giving to its employees.

If your organisation would like to find out more about setting up payroll giving for its employees, please visit the IRD website
