Benji providing rapid HIV and Syphilis testing at Market Fun Day in Onehunga

On March 8th, International Women’s Day, Positive Women Inc. participated in “The Cause Collective’s Market Fun Day” at Christlife A.O.G Onehunga Church. Representing our organization, Benji provided rapid HIV and Syphilis testing as part of our ongoing collaboration with the Burnett Foundation Aotearoa and promoting HIV testing.

The “Cause Collective” is a community-driven organization dedicated to fostering thriving communities across generations. They focus on improving the experiences of people, families, and communities within public and community services. Their work primarily supports Pacific peoples across Aotearoa, underserved populations, and South Auckland communities. By addressing the root causes of complex issues while also strengthening prevention systems, The Cause Collective delivers a wide range of community services, working closely with clinical and provider networks as well as key delivery partners.

Market Fun Day was a vibrant and engaging event that offered entertainment and essential health services to the community. Outside, families enjoyed a variety of activities, including a bouncy castle for children, interactive games, and live music performances. These activities created a welcoming and energetic atmosphere for all attendees.

Inside the event hall, a range of health services were available, ensuring accessible and free healthcare for the community. Attendees could receive a quick check-up from a general practitioner, as well as guidance and support from organizations such as the Heart Foundation, Stroke Foundation of New Zealand, St John, Work and Income, and the Bowel Screening program. This comprehensive, health-focused initiative was designed to empower people with essential medical services and information.

Over the course of the day, more than 20 people took advantage of the rapid HIV and Syphilis testing services. By providing these essential health screenings in a community-centered environment, we were able to engage in meaningful conversations about sexual health, reduce stigma, and encourage proactive healthcare.

Positive Women Inc. remains committed to increasing awareness and accessibility to HIV testing. Events like Market Fun Day are vital in reaching diverse communities and ensuring that everyone has access to necessary health resources. We extend our gratitude to The Cause Collective for organizing such an impactful event and to our partners at the Burnett Foundation Aotearoa for their ongoing collaboration and support.

We look forward to participating in future initiatives that continue to promote health and well-being in our communities.
