Positive Women Inc. is delighted to congratulate Dr Mark Thomas, who has been appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM) in the 2025 King’s Birthday Honours for his outstanding services to people living with HIV and AIDS and antibiotic research. This prestigious honour recognises his lifelong dedication, leadership, and compassion in healthcare.
For decades, Dr Thomas has been a dedicated ally, advocate, and source of compassion for people living with HIV. As an Infectious Diseases specialist, he has supported countless people, many of our own members, guiding them with expertise, empathy, and a deep commitment to their wellbeing.
Marks long-standing relationship with Positive Women Inc. has meant that our community has benefitted not only from his clinical knowledge but also from his generosity of spirit.
We are especially grateful for the time Dr Thomas has given beyond his professional responsibilities. At our annual Women’s Retreat, he has regularly hosted Q&A sessions entirely in his own time, offering a safe, open, and supportive space for women living with HIV to ask questions, seek clarity, and feel empowered in their healthcare. These moments of connection have had a lasting impact and are treasured by many of our members. Dr Thomas’s dedication, humility, and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of people living with HIV demonstrates the very best of healthcare leadership.
Being appointed a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit is a fitting recognition of his lifelong service, and we are proud to celebrate this milestone with him.
Our heartfelt congratulations to Dr Mark Thomas. Thank you for everything you have done—and continue to do—for our community. This honour is deeply deserved, and we are thrilled to see your work acknowledged at the highest level.
